City of Hickory takes precautions ahead of winter weather

HICKORY, NC (January 16, 2017)…The City of Hickory’s Street Department is busy preparing for the winter weather.  The bridges have been brined, as well as some major streets, and City staff will continue that effort throughout the day.  Crews will report Tuesday evening to prepare for the event, respond to calls, and begin the cleanup efforts.  Snow plows are prepared and will be used to plow and salt/sand the streets as necessary.

The Solid Waste Department is also preparing for inclement weather and will be collecting garbage as early as possible, as weather and road conditions permit. Residents should place their rollouts to the curb on their normal day and leave it there until it can be collected. Recycling, yard waste, and commercial accounts will also be collected as weather and road conditions permit.

The City will be working diligently to maintain safe roadways and collect garbage as efficiently as possible.  However, citizens should limit travel as much as possible and exercise extreme caution during the winter storm event.

If you have questions regarding garbage, recycling or yard waste collection in the City of Hickory, please call (828) 323-7500.
