CCC&TI Students Earn Gold at SkillsUSA National Championships

HUDSON, NC (July 7, 2017)…Caldwell Community College and Techni¬cal Institute students excelled in the SkillsUSA National Championships June 22-23 in Louisville, Ky., with one team bringing home a first-place win.

CCC&TI students Rebecca Silvas and Paul Trigger won the gold medal, first place in the nation, in the Mobile Robotic Technology (Post- Secondary) competition. The duo took first place in the statewide com¬petition in April for the right to compete at the national level.

CCC&TI students and faculty advisors competed at the recent SkillsUSA National Championship Competition in Louisville, Ky. Also, competing in the Post-Secondary division, Larry Milam, took 15th place in the Technical Drafting competi¬tion. Blevins had won first place in the statewide competition in April to earn the right to compete at the national level. Blevins graduated from CCC&TI in May with an Associate Degree in Electrical Systems Technology.

The faculty advisors for both competitions were Susan Deal, director of the Electrical/Electronics and Mechanical Engineering programs, and Instructor Tom Mendenhall.

SkillsUSA is a national membership organization serving middle-school, high-school and college/postsecondary students who are preparing for careers in trade, technical and skilled service occupations, including health occupations. The organization has 18,000 chapters and 52 state and territorial associations.
