HUDSON, NC (March 13, 2017)…The Caldwell Community College and Technical Institute men’s basketball team came up one point short in the District X Tournament Championship this weekend in Southern Pines, N.C. But the 61-60 loss to Spartanburg Methodist didn’t end the Cobras’ season. As District X runner-up, the 24-8 Cobras will play on and have a shot at the National Championship. The 24-team, single-elimination tournament takes place March 20-25 in Hutchinson, Kansas.
The Cobras will be the No. 24 seed in the tournament and will face No. 9 seed Jones County Junior College (Miss.), the District 15 champs, at 1 p.m. on Monday, March 20.
A long-time powerhouse in Division III, including a second-place national finish in 2014, CCC&TI made the jump to Division I this season and had only returned one starter. Head Coach Matt Anderson is both proud and not at all surprised with their success this season. “I can’t begin to express how proud we, as well as our institution and community, are of this team! They are as tough and resilient as any group I have ever had. They have worked unbelievably hard and have really bought into our system, so I am so excited for them to have this opportunity.”
