HUDSON, NC (November 7, 2017)…The Caldwell Men’s Chorus will present their fall concert on Saturday, November 18th at 7:30 PM at Lenoir Presbyterian Church, 1002 Kirkwood St. NW, Lenoir, NC 28645. The concert is free and open to the public. No ticket is required, just come to the door of the Sanctuary. Donations are gratefully accepted.
The Caldwell Men’s Chorus is a non-profit 501c3 organization, consisting of 24 singers between the ages of 15 and 80. The Director is Mr. Keith Smith and the Accompanist is Mr. Greg Knight. The men will be joined by the Catawba Valley Community College Choir, featuring 24 singers under the direction of Mrs. Caroline Simyon.
Smith says that there is usually a theme that either intentionally or unintentionally develops for the concert, and this fall is no exception. The Men’s portion of the concert opens with a song of camaraderie called, “Manly Men,” which talks of singing drinking songs and sea songs and barbershop songs, all of which are sung in the remainder of the concert. Selections include “Drink to Me Only with Thine Eyes,” a funny English folk song entitled, “I Wish’t I Were Single Again,” “Away from the Roll of the Sea,” “For the Beauty of the Earth,” a different, striking barbershop rendition of “Amazing Grace,” a beautiful setting of “Ave Maria” by Franz Biebl and a spiritual entitled, “Lay Up Your Treasures in Heaven.”
Smith says that the church always fills up for these concerts and encourages everyone to get there early to claim a seat. For more information, call Smith at 322-3169.
