Caldwell County Sheriff’s Office assists North Carolina State Bureau of Investigations in drug arrest

LENOIR, NC (September 6, 2018) — On September 5, 2018, at 10:00 pm, the Caldwell County Sheriff’s Office assisted the North Carolina State Bureau of Investigation with the execution of a drug search warrant on the Caldwell County Democratic Candidate for Sheriff, Robert “Dusty” Lewis Crump, age 63, and his son and campaign manager, Will Dixon Crump, age 30, both of 3252 Journeys End Lane in Lenoir.

The month-long investigation came to a close after SWAT secured the residence and a search of the premise was conducted.  The search warrant, obtained by a Special Agent with the SBI, was issued pursuant to “numerous” purchases of marijuana from Will and Robert Crump at their residence.

At the conclusion of the search, Agents located several bags and containers of individually packaged marijuana, digital weighing scales, packaging material, ledgers, and numerous other items of drug paraphernalia.  During the investigation, the total amount of marijuana seized was approximately 246.5 grams or over ½ pound.  The marijuana has a street value of $6,150.00 according to State guidelines.

currency contained marked bills, which had been used in some of the previous undercover marijuana buys.  This money was found to be in Sheriff Candidate Robert Crump’s possession.

Both Robert and Will Crump were charged with Felonious Possession with Intent to Sell/Deliver Marijuana and Felonious Maintain a Dwelling to Keep/Store a Controlled Substance.   Will Crump was issued a $15,000 secured bond and Robert Crump was originally issued a $6,000 secured bond, but it was amended to $15,000 secured.

A criminal history of Will Dixon Crump indicated he has been previously charged with Felonious Possession of Heroin on September 12, 2017 and Felonious Possession of Schedule II Controlled Substance on April 9, 2018.   A criminal history of Robert Lewis Crump indicated he was found guilty on April 26, 1993 of Misdemeanor Maintain a Dwelling to Keep/Store a Controlled Substance and Misdemeanor Possession of Marijuana in Caldwell County Superior Court.  Both individuals had a first appearance set for District Court in Lenoir on September 6, 2018.
