Caldwell County School campuses closed for students, open for voters

LENOIR, NC (November 7, 2016)…Eleven of the 26 schools in the district will serve as polling precincts tomorrow during the 2016 Presidential Election, hosting nearly half of the 56,000 registered voters in Caldwell County. Schools will be closed for students to allow for the projected number of voters on campus, while faculty and staff will report to work and utilize the day for professional development.

The following schools are voting sites:
Baton Elementary
Dudley Shoals Elementary
Gamewell Elementary
Gamewell Middle
Happy Valley School
Hibriten High School
Kings Creek
Oak Hill School
Sawmills Elementary
West Lenoir Elementary
Whitnel Elementary

Polls will open at 6:30 am and close at 7:30 pm. More than 25,000 residents in Caldwell County capitalized on the early voting option, but heavy voter turnout is expected tomorrow, since North Carolina has been identified as one of the toss-up states in the presidential race.

*Caldwell Early College High School and Middle College High School will operate tomorrow on a regular schedule for students, since both high schools are located on the campus of CCC&TI and operate on a different calendar that is more closely aligned with the college schedule. There is no voting precinct on the college campus.
