Caldwell County Public Library Calendar Of Events

LENOIR, NC (December 28, 2016)…Caldwell County library programs for January 2 thru January 31.

Monday, Jan. 2
The Caldwell County Public Library will be closed in observance of the New Year. We will reopen on Tuesday, January 3rd.

Wednesday, Jan. 4
Computer Basics for Adults will be held Wednesdays in January at 2:30pm at the Lenoir library. This 4-week series of classes is FREE and starts from the very beginning. Seats are limited, so registration is required. Call (828) 757-1270 to register.

Thursday, Jan. 5
Movies with Mike will be held today at 6pm at the Lenoir Library. Enjoy the magic of movies and learn about classic films! Popcorn will be provided and you can stay after to discuss the movie. For more information about this program, call the Hudson Library at 828-728-4207.

Caldwell Language Exchange will be held Thursdays in January at 6pm at the Lenoir Library. For those who are trying to learn or improve their English OR Spanish – a forum where language learners unite to provide assistance. Some vocabulary will be covered and then participants will practice English/Spanish with each other. This FREE event is available to ages 15 and up.

Silly Family Dance Party will be held at the Lenoir library tonight at 6:30 pm. Come dance the night away with your family! We’ll have all kinds of dancing and movement. This 30-minute program is designed for families with children who are 7 or younger, but all are welcome to join in on the fun! Saturday, Jan. 7
Patron Artists at the Library presents a Soft Pastels Workshop at 10am at the Lenoir Library. Local artist Vaun Healey will lead us in illustrating a Chilly Kitty using soft pastels. Materials and instruction provided. This FREE event is for ages 12 and up and is sponsored by Friends of the Library, Caldwell Arts Council and the North Carolina Arts Council. Space is limited, so registration is required.

Monday, Jan. 9
Baby Time will be held today at 10am at the Lenoir Library. Babies up to age 2 enjoy rhymes, songs, stories, and active play with a caregiver during this free 30-minute program. Please call 828-757-1274 for more info.

Tuesday, Jan. 10
Story Time will be held today at 10am at the Granite Falls Library. Children participate in stories, music, and games that encourage language and social development. Story Time is designed for 2-5 year olds and a caregiver and lasts about 30 minutes. Please call 828-757-1274 for more info.

The SubZERO Effect will be held today at the Lenoir Library at 3:30pm. Join us and the KidSenses Children’s INTERACTIVE Museum to learn that science can by cool, really cool, about 322 degrees below Fahrenheit cool! Using liquid nitrogen, we’ll shatter a ball, make an explosion, and examine the three states of matter! This program is open to families with children in elementary school.

Discover Google will be held today at 6pm at the Lenoir library. Come to this FREE one-hour class to learn more about the many Google features, tools and services that go way beyond their iconic Search. Space is limited, so registration is required.

Family History Research with Ancestry.com Practice Lab will be held today at 10am at the Lenoir Library. Created especially for our budding genealogists, this hour-long practice lab allows you to use the Ancestry.com search features with an instructor on hand to help resolve questions.

Microsoft Word: Basics will be held today at 2:30pm at the Lenoir library. This single-session class covers the basic functions and features of Word 2013. Pre-requisite: Students should know how to use a mouse and a keyboard. Space is limited, so registration is required.

Harry Potter Trivia will be held today at 4:00pm at the Lenoir Library. How well do you know Harry Potter? Test your knowledge with trivia at the Lenoir Library! We will also be having butter beer and other fun snacks. This program is for teens in 6th-12th grades.

Coloring Therapy for Adults will be held today at 5:00 pm at the Lenoir Library. Proven to reduce anxiety and increase mindfulness, coloring is also just plain fun! Join us for this FREE early evening respite for ages 15 and up. Supplies will be provided, but please feel free to bring your own. Sponsored by the Caldwell County Friends of the Library.

Coffee Talk Book Club will be held today at 10am at Highland Coffee House in downtown Lenoir. Meet for coffee, books, & conversation. January’s selection is Disclaimer by Renee Knight. Coffee Talk Book Club meets the 3rd Thursday of the month at 10am. Everyone is welcome!

Student Financial Aid Help Sessions will be held today from 1-5pm at the Lenoir Library. Take advantage of this opportunity to get some expert help with completing your FAFSA from the North Carolina State Employee’s Credit Union. Availability is limited, so registration is strongly encouraged.
