Caldwell County issues Declaration of State of Emergency

LENOIR, NC (September 11, 2017)…Chairman Randy Church of the Caldwell County Commissioners, has declared a State of Emergency for Caldwell County effective 4 p.m., Monday, September 11, 2017, due to potential public safety hazards relating to the remnants of Hurricane Irma and its possible effects on Caldwell County. Caldwell County has begun to feel some effects from this storm system and there is the potential for heavy amounts of rain and wind, which in turn, may disrupt emergency services response as well as other public services including utilities and other infrastructure.

Emergency Services Director Dino DiBernardi explains, “This declaration has been made in preparation for the potential impacts the remnants of Hurricane Irma could have on Caldwell County; this is in no way a reason for panic or worry. This will simply allow the Department of Emergency Services to implement and function under the County’s Emergency Operations Plan and will also assist in obtaining any resources that may be needed. As we recommend for our citizens, Caldwell County is preparing for potential impacts of the storm.”

County officials encourage citizens to monitor their local weather channels and to visit the Caldwell County Emergency Services Facebook page and follow NC Emergency Management, the National Weather Service and The National Hurricane Center on Facebook and Twitter for up-to-date information and important information on how to best prepare for its potential impact.

Caldwell County Emergency Services has been actively engaged in the preparation and response to the impending weather system since early last week, and continues to work closely with other local and State officials and departments in an attempt to lessen the effects on services provided to the citizens and visitors of Caldwell County.

The State of Emergency will remain in effect until officials recommend that a declaration to terminate the State of Emergency is made.
