Caldwell County hires new Library Director

lesley-mason-library-director-oct-2016LENOIR, NC (October 19, 2016)…Lesley Mason of Falling Waters, West Virginia will become Library Director of the Caldwell County Public Library system on November 1.

Mason comes to Caldwell County with over five (5) years of experience working in Washington D.C. area libraries and experience in municipal governments and education as well. She was serving as Youth Services Manager of the D.C. Public Library when she accepted the position in Caldwell County.

“Caldwell County is providing me a wonderful opportunity to be a part of their dynamic community,” says Mason. “I’m looking forward to meeting the staff and familiarizing myself with the needs of library patrons. Bringing my passion for innovative library programs and public services to a new environment is very exciting. This is a revolutionary time for libraries across the country, and I can’t wait to see what amazing things we can do together.”

As Library Director, Mason will oversee all three branches of the Caldwell County Public Library including the Main Branch in Lenoir, the Granite Falls Branch and the Hudson Branch. All three branches are made up of seventeen (17) full time and thirteen (13) part time employees.

In addition to her current position at the D.C. Public Library, Mason served as Children’s Librarian from 2012 to 2015. She also previously served as Children’s Librarian at Washington County Free Library and Library Associate at Enoch Pratt Free Library.

Along with her library experience, Mason has served as Communications & Research Analyst for the Federal Reserve Bank of Richmond, Special Projects Coordinator for the Baltimore City Council and a member of the Adjunct Faculty at Shepherd University.

Mason earned a Masters of Library Science from Clarion University, Clarion PA, a Master of Arts in Publications Designs from the University of Baltimore and a Bachelor of Arts in English from Bridgewater College.
