Caldwell County elderly man missing

LENOIR, NC (August 27, 2018) — The Caldwell County Sheriff’s Office and Caldwell County Emergency Services is looking for an elderly missing man from the Oak Hill community.

84- year-old Jimmy “RC” Spears of 1044 Rays Place, Lenoir, was last spoken to by telephone at his home last night around 10:30 p.m. He has gray hair, is 5’ 3” tall, and weighs 150 pounds.  Spears is believed to have dementia.

Spear’s son reported him missing around 11am this morning and told searchers that his father had dementia. He believed Spears was wearing a white t-shirt and boxer shorts when he left and possibly was barefoot.

A search helicopter from the North Carolina Highway Patrol was in route to use their infrared technology to search overnight.

Citizens in the Oak Hill community are asked to be aware that there will be searchers in the woods through the night and if they hear them, not to be concerned.

Nineteen different agencies from surrounding counties including search dogs from the North Carolina Department of Corrections and Avery County have been searching since this morning. The Red Cross is also on hand to provide food and drinks for the search teams.  The search began this morning and is expected to continue into the evening hours.
