Caldwell County Deputy shot during traffic stop

LENOIR, NC (July 17, 2018 – 6:30pm)…Sheriff Jones briefs the media on what took place today at a house on Zacks Fork Road today concerning the suspect that shot Deputy Jordan Sherrill.  Male suspect is deceased and a female is in custody (no names released yet).  After questioning, the female was taken to the Caldwell County Magistrate Office.

LENOIR, NC (July 17, 2018 – 1:48pm)…The Caldwell County Sheriff’s Office has identified a suspect in the shooting of Deputy Jordan Sherrill during a traffic stop on Sunday night.  Investigators are attempting to locate the suspect at this time.

LENOIR, NC (July 16, 2018 – 4:24pm)…The Caldwell County Sheriff’s Office is confirming that the Deputy shot last night in a traffic stop is 21-year-old Jordan Sherrill.

No other information is being released at this time. The investigation is diligently going forward.

Caldwell County investigators asking for assistance in locating suspect car in deputy shooting

LENOIR, NC (July 16, 2018 – 12:44pm)…The Caldwell County Sheriff’s Office has released four photos of the suspect car during a traffic stop last night where a deputy was shot.

Anyone recognizing the early 1990’s model, blue, four-door Toyota Corolla with North Carolina License Plate AFJ-5570, is asked to contact the Caldwell County Sheriff’s Office at 828-758-2324.

Crimestoppers will pay up to $1000 for information leading to an arrest in the shooting.

The driver was a white male and the passenger was a white female.

The car was involved in a traffic stop around 11:30 p.m. on Cheraw Road near the intersection with Pisgah Church Road. Reportedly as the deputy approached the car, he was shot.

The deputy, whose name is not being released at this time, was wearing a protective vest at the time but was hit below the vest. He was flown by helicopter to Carolinas Medical Center in Charlotte where he underwent surgery and is listed in stable condition.

The Caldwell County Sheriff’s Office along with the North Carolina State Bureau of Investigation (SBI) and other area law enforcement agencies are gathering available information to determine a motive and suspect in the shooting.

LENOIR, NC (July 16, 2018 – 11:22am)…Steve Ohnesorge from WBTV is reporting that the deputy is out of surgery and in stable condition.  Good news!

LENOIR, NC (July 16, 2018 – 2:17am)…A Caldwell County Deputy was shot late last night during a traffic stop. The shooting occurred around 11:30 p.m. on Cheraw Road near the intersection with Pisgah Church Road.

The suspect vehicle was a blue Toyota sedan.

The deputy, whose name is not being released at this time, was wearing a protective vest at the time but was hit below the vest. He was flown by helicopter to Carolinas Medical Center in Charlotte where he is undergoing treatment.

Any further information on his condition is not being released at this time.  He has been with the Caldwell County Sheriff’s office for just over one year.
