Blue Ridge Energy Crews Restore Power from Severe Weather

LENOIR, NC (August 14, 2019) — All power has been restored after severe weather impacted 2,200 Blue Ridge Energy members on Tuesday, August 13.

Crews worked throughout Tuesday to repair damage at 22 locations across the cooperative’s service area. Most of the outages occurred as a result of high winds, which toppled trees from outside of right-of-way areas. Caldwell County was the hardest hit region, after fallen trees resulted in four broken poles. Blue Ridge Energy crews were assisted by contractor crews from Pike Electric.

The following is a breakdown of the impact:

Caldwell District: 1,174 members were impacted by 15 damaged locations

Watauga District: 35 members were affected by 2 damaged locations

Ashe District: 814 members lost power from 3 damaged locations

Alleghany District: 177 members were impacted from 2 damaged locations.

Members should always report outages by calling 1-800-448-2383 or by using the Blue Ridge Energy mobile app. Outage updates are available any time on the cooperative’s live outage map at www.BlueRidgeEnergy.com and on the mobile app.

The electric cooperative serves some 76,000 members in Caldwell, Watauga, Ashe, and Alleghany counties as well as parts of Avery, Alexander and Wilkes counties. Learn more at www.BlueRidgeEnergy.com.
