LENOIR, NC (January 31, 2019) — The City of Lenoir is kicking off Black History Month this weekend with a jazz show. The Groove Masters Band will play a free concert Saturday, Feb. 2, at the Martin Luther King Jr. Center. The show starts at 7:00 pm.
On Saturday, Feb. 9, the Martin Luther King Jr. Center is showing the movie “Green Book.” “Green Book” tells the story of Dr. Don Shirley, a world-class African-American pianist, who embarks on a concert tour in the Deep South in 1962. Staff will serve light refreshments. Parents must attend with children and under.
The MLK Jr. Center will host a Blood Drive Tuesday, Feb. 12, from 2:00 to 6:30 pm. Donors will be placed in a drawing to win a door prize.
The City will wrap up Black History Month with the annual Quiz Bowl & Essay Contest Thursday, Feb. 21, at 6:00 pm.
