Attorney General Stein Announces $18.6 Million for NC for Do-Not-Call Violations

RALEIGH, NC (June 6, 2017)…Attorney General Josh Stein today announced that North Carolina will receive $18.6 million as a result of a lawsuit against Dish Network related to its violations of Do-Not-Call laws. North Carolina entered into the lawsuit against Dish Network with three other states and the federal government. This is the largest do-not-call related penalty ever obtained.

“The do-not-call registry was created to prevent this type of aggressive telemarketing,” said Attorney General Stein. “My office will bring action against companies that try to circumvent these laws and contact people who have signed up for the registry.”

In total, Dish Network will pay $168 million to the federal government and $112 million total to North Carolina, California, Illinois and Ohio. North Carolina will receive $18.6 million, a portion of which will go to North Carolina schools.
