GRANITE FALLS, NC (December 16, 2016)…On December 16, 2016, at approximately 2:49 pm, an unidentified white male entered Sherrill’s Jewelry with his face covered. Employees and witnesses at the business told police the suspect displayed a handgun and announced a robbery. At this point, the business owner pointed his own handgun at the suspect and challenged the robbery. The suspect then fled the store and got into the passenger side of a vehicle that was parked on Park Square. Area video surveillance shows the vehicle traveling away from Sherrill’s Jewelry on Main Street. The vehicle appears to be a burgundy in color passenger car, possibly a Ford Fusion. The vehicle was last seen near the Granite Falls Post Office. Investigators are collecting evidence and area video surveillance. Investigators will release surveillance footage at a later time when it becomes available. Nobody was injured during this crime.
