CALDWELL COUNTY, NC (February 16, 2017)…Amanda Bregel, a teacher at the Early College High School, filed Friday at the Board of Elections to run for the North Carolina House District 87. She will run on the Democratic ticket.
Bregel believes in North Carolina workers and supports the development of local business and industry. If elected she will work to bring living wage, long term jobs and careers to Caldwell County. She cares deeply about public schools and colleges. She will work for comprehensive budgets and an attitude of respect for students, teachers, staff and administrators. If elected to the North Carolina House of Representatives, Bregel will work for easy access to quality and affordable health care. She will also work to meet the challenges of mental health care and the opioid crisis that affect so many throughout North Carolina and the 87th district.
Bregel, the daughter of a Navy Chaplain and a teacher, set down roots in Caldwell County in 2012 when she accepted a position as a teacher at the Early College. Since then, she has traveled the highways and backroads of Caldwell with her “10th grade team” of teachers and their students. They have taught these young people about their heritage and helped them realize the opportunities that are available to them within their home county. During these weekly excursions, Bregel has met local community leaders, business leaders and people from all walks of life. During her six years at the Early College she has been selected for the Early College Rookie Teacher of the Year and Teacher of the Year awards.
Bregel grew up at military bases around the world. As a student at UNC-Greensboro, she learned the power of enthusiasm and cooperation as she spent her college breaks leading fellow students to rebuild communities devastated by Hurricane Katrina. After graduating from UNC-G, Bregel served as a missionary in Kenya where she learned the power of diversity and the importance of the international community.
If elected, Bregel will bring these values as well as a deep respect for the people of Caldwell County and a passion to serve the 87th district as their representative. Bregel believes in a future where people are empowered by education, good-paying jobs and healthy minds and bodies. She pledges to spend the next months listening to voters, community leaders, and as many people as possible to learn the concerns and dreams of the people of Caldwell County.
