RALEIGH, NC (November 14, 2016)…The North Carolina Department of Environmental Quality in Raleigh has issued a code red air quality action day for fine particulates…in effect until midnight tonight. Numerous wildfires are affecting the North Carolina foothills and mountains and smoke plumes are creating unhealthy breathing conditions.
A code red air quality action day means that fine particulates concentrations within the region may approach or exceed unhealthy standards. Everyone may experience some health effects. Older adults… children… active people…and those with heart or lung disease may experience more serious health effects. Therefore…everyone is advised to limit prolonged or heavy exertion outdoors.
