Update number 6…Caldwell County wind storm damage
GRANITE FALLS, NC (October 24, 2017)…Grace Chapel Road is open for primarily residential traffic only now. On the section of road from Highway 321 to New Farm Road, sheriff’s officers and highway patrolman will be checking I.D.’s to make sure the drivers are residents of the area. From New Farm Road onward, Grace Chapel Road is open to all traffic.
The shelter at South Caldwell High School will be open through the evening as it will be taking overflow from the Catawba County shelter. The Catawba County shelter is full and needs space to house citizens.
As of this afternoon, there are a reported 150 structures damaged including homes and out buildings. There is not a final tally yet on damages. Damage assessment crews will be back up tomorrow to continue and the number will rise.
There have been no reports of injuries.
The Emergency Operations Center will be closed at 5 p.m. The two phone numbers for residents to call in will be shut down for the evening and will go back on-line tomorrow morning at 8 a.m. The phone numbers are 828-426-8605 or 828-426-8606.
