Fire Departments across Caldwell and surrounding counties battling warehouse fire in Granite Falls

GRANITE FALLS, NC (July 21, 2017)…All 16 fire departments in Caldwell County and several from Catawba and Burke Counties are battling a warehouse fire in downtown Granite Falls.

The fire at the old Shuford Mills Warehouse was called in around 7 p.m. The warehouse is currently being rented out for storage units.

There are no injuries at this time.  Update:  Still no reports of injuries. Firefighters are rotating out of the fire on regular basis for their safety in the heat.

The building is 100 percent involved in flames and at this time it is 35 percent contained. No surrounding buildings are damaged.

12 to 15 homes in surrounding neighborhoods have been evacuated due to the heat from the fire.  Update: The mandatory evacuation of neighborhoods around the Shuford Mills Warehouse fire in Granite Falls has been lifted. Residents can return to their homes.

The Granite Falls Recreation Center, the Granite Falls Drug Center and the Granite Falls Town Offices are open to serve as cooling centers for residents.

The American Red Cross is also on the scene providing a rehab center for fire fighters.

It is expected that firefighters will be battling this fire through the night.

If residents would like to donate bottled water and Gatorade for the firefighters, they can bring it to the Granite Falls Police Department.
