GRANITE FALLS, NC (May 9, 2017)…Due to some delays in acquiring the needed right of way, demolition of the bridge has been pushed back to June. The contractor will start demolition as soon as this issue has been resolved.
To answer some questions concerning the water level of the Old Mill Pond, the contractor has not stated the need to drain the water but it is always possible that it might need to be drained some. The pond will not be completely drained.
There have also been some rumors that the contractor will be building a temporary gravel road next to the bridge…They are planning to install a temporary causeway for equipment to help in demolition and the building of the new structure. This causeway will be installed from both sides of the bridge but it will not join together.
