CALDWELL COUNTY, NC (February 27, 2017)…Caldwell County high school students outperformed some of the most highly recognized academic students from across the state at the North Carolina Beta Club Convention held in Greensboro this month.
South Caldwell High School students traditionally place in a variety of academic subjects at the North Carolina and National Beta Club conventions, and this year’s performances were on the mark. Winning Spartans included Lexi Bell placing 1st in Biology; and Meredith Ingram, Aubrey Miller, Amanda Winebarger and Cameron Connor placing 2nd in Advertising Design. For the Spotlight on Service, South Caldwell BETA club president Danila Berry earned a 2nd place finish for her presentation on the “Soles of Hope” project that she organized. Winebarger and Connor also assisted in this competition.
Jonathan Haas, South Caldwell Beta Sponsor, said the school was well-represented at the statewide competition: “It’s always rewarding to see their hard work pay off as they realize that they can compete and win against the best and brightest students from across the state.”
Two students from the Caldwell Early College High School placed in competition. The Early College’s Caitlin Finley won 1st place in the Junior Agriculture competition and Deanna Kilby won 2nd in Poetry. A freshman from Hibriten High School Mason Smith placed 3rd in the Division I Social Studies competition, supported by Hibriten sponsor Shawna Greeno. Club sponsors at the Early College High School are Phyllis Land and Ingrid Link.
The Caldwell County Schools BETA champion students were recognized by the Board of Education at the February Board meeting. By placing either first, second or third at the state level, these students are eligible to compete at the National BETA Convention in June. This year’s National BETA Convention will be held in Orlando, Florida, where more than 15,000 attendees will gather to compete.
BETA is an educational youth organization in America to promote the ideals of academic achievement, character, service and leadership among elementary and secondary school students.
