Settlemeyer wins 2016 Construction Trades TOY
LENOIR, NC (December 6, 2016)…Scott Settlemeyer, masonry teacher at South Caldwell High School, has been awarded the 2016 Construction Trades Teacher of the Year by the Caldwell County Home Builders Association. This is the second consecutive year that he has been the recipient of this distinguished honor voted on by the members of the Home Builders Association.
As a former business owner of Precision Masonry Company, Settlemeyer entered the teaching field in 1998. “I wanted a new challenge,” said Settlemeyer. “Seeing students learn and excel in this trade is very rewarding.”
Settlemeyer teaches courses in career technical education, specifically in masonry. Students who are focused in this career field may enroll and complete courses that earn them national construction registry certification and if they continue through the masonry pathway, they become accredited as they complete each required module.
“Students can graduate from South Caldwell, and enter right into a job. What they get here is equivalent to a college degree, but in the construction field,” said Settlemeyer.
