Report Cards provide detailed and comparative data

LENOIR, NC (December 2, 2016)…Just as student report cards are released to inform parents of academic performance, the Caldwell County School System also receives a report card from the Department of Public Instruction that is found online at www.ncpublicschools.org/src/ where parents will discover detailed and comparative data on each public school and school district in North Carolina.

This NC School Report Cards include school indicators provided in previous years’ reports such as school performance grades and statewide end-of-grade and end-of-course test results for the five achievement levels. It also includes a couple of changes: Annual Measurable Objectives (AMOs) are replaced with Participation Targets, as North Carolina is no longer required to report AMO proficiency targets for 2015-16 and 2016-17; and Wireless Access Points per classroom has been added to help evaluate digital access for students.

Parents are encouraged to visit the site, which can be used in a variety of ways. It can answer questions such as: “How experienced are the teachers in my child’s school?” or “Does my child’s school have more or less access to computers than other schools?” It can also give parents an idea of how their school is doing academically compared to the district and at the state level.

Each student received a snapshot or summary version of the results to take home. Parents are encouraged to contact school’s administrative offices if they have questions. The format allows side-by-side comparisons of schools and districts; however, since schools are structured differently from one another in terms of size, grade levels, student populations served, and the programs offered, the NC School Report Cards should not be used to rank schools.
