RALEIGH, NC (May 17, 2017)…Rep. Destin Hall (R-Caldwell) released a statement Wednesday following news the Mill Pond Bridge in Granite Falls, North Carolina had collapsed despite the state Department of Transportation’s assurances it would begin work on the bridge on May 1, 2017:
“When I took office in January, I immediately went to work trying to get the Mill Pond Bridge replaced as quickly as possible.
Officials at the North Carolina Department of Transportation assured me that work on the new bridge was set to begin May 1, 2017, but unfortunately that has not happened.
I am aware of today’s collapse of a portion of the Mill Pond Bridge, which has been closed since October 2016, and while I am thankful no one was hurt I am deeply concerned about the North Carolina Department of Transportation’s lack of progress in replacing the bridge.
I have demanded answers today from officials at the state Department of Transportation, and I will provide an update as soon as those answers are provided.”
