The race will benefit Medical Patient Modesty, a 501c3 non-profit organization that works to educate patients about how to stand up for their rights to same gender medical care for certain procedures and how to have maximum amount of modesty for procedures. The organization was founded by Misty Roberts, a deaf woman. This is an often unspoken need which Misty has found.

And while you may not have thought about medical modesty, this is especially a needed area for people who are concerned about their modesty in medical settings and abused victims. Your support to MPM is much appreciated.

Misty shared this, “one of my friends who had a bad birthing experience because her female gynecologist would not respect her wishes that no medical students be present made the following comments that had a big impact on me: “You will have a bigger impact than you think. Maybe God has given you this special mission – could even be a greater advantage to be a deaf woman communicating what no one else can. How amazing is that.”

Misty says, “We have helped a number of people in the US over the past few years.” Here are a couple examples:

1.) A young lady from Colorado was upset that a local hospital could not give her a 100% guarantee that her baby would be delivered by a female gynecologist because they had two male OB/GYNs and two female OB/GYNs that rotated. The patient advocate at that hospital was not helpful at all. She did some searching on the Internet and found MPM’s web site and emailed me (Misty) about her situation. I recommended that she look into two other hospitals that were further away that had all-female ob/gyn practices. She found a hospital that was 45 minutes away that could guarantee her that her baby would be delivered by either a female midwife or OB/GYN.

2.) A man from New York who was concerned about his modesty during colonoscopy found the colonoscopy article on MPM’s web site. He emailed (me) Misty with some questions and with my help, he took steps to ensure that he would have an all-male team for his colonoscopy and request special colonoscopy shorts that helped to protect his modesty. The clinic did not have colonoscopy shorts, but the head nurse ordered them at the man’s request.
