Brig. Gen. J. Johnston Pettigrew Camp 1401 News and Events

CALDWELL COUNTY, NC (May 25, 2017)…Brig. Gen. J. Johnston Pettigrew Camp 1401 has been busy lately out in the community.  Below are three events that took place recently.


Brigadier General J. Johnston Pettigrew Camp 1401 place wreath

Members and friends of the Brigadier General J. Johnston Pettigrew Camp 1401 gathered on May 10, 2017 to place a wreath at the Caldwell County Confederate Monument located on the square in downtown Lenoir. The event was in observance of Confederate Memorial Day which honors those who died fighting for the Confederate States of America during the American Civil War from 1861 through 1865.

Camp 1401 is part of the North Carolina Division, Sons of Confederate Veterans (SCV). The SCV is a century-old organization of men whose ancestors served in the Confederate Army, Navy or Marine Corps during the war for Southern Independence, and the largest and most influential such organization currently active, around the world. Much of the work of heritage defense and defense of the good name of the Confederate Veterans is done by local Camps such as the Brig. Gen. J. Johnson Pettigrew Camp 1401. South Caldwell JROTC Cadet Receives the H. L. Hunley Award

Petty Officer Emily White was presented the H. L. Hunley Award by Ed Boldin, Adjutant of the Brig. General J. Johnston Pettigrew Camp 1401 of the Sons of Confederate Veterans (SCV). The award was created by the South Carolina Division, SCV, to recognize deserving Junior ROTC cadets who have demonstrated the qualities of Honor, Courage, and Commitment to his or her unit throughout the school year. The award honors the crews of the Confederate Submarine H. L. Hunley, the first submarine to sink an enemy vessel in combat. The program has been expanded beyond the Navy / Marine JROTC program to all branches of service and beyond the state of South Carolina to any interested school in the United States.
